Last week:
Insurance adjuster- sorry no new roof for us, but they'll fix the inside walls. SO what happens next time it rains then?
New loan- oops, the BANK sent the wrong kind of check, due today, maybe you can wire that money somewhere? Overnighted it personally, hope it's not too late. . .
Demo the walls- took off the drywall and insulation, should dry out ok. Wait, what's that over the window? Let's take that off too, oh look mold! Call the insurance adjuster monday ok?
7layer cookies- ate most of the pan myself, why not?
This week:
Taking a mini vacation with my sister, got a hotel room and everything, the Insurance Adjuster is going to agree with us on the window thing, we took pictures, there's a book at the library for me I'm going to read, and it's not going to rain, right? RIGHT???

And the Answer IS:
SIMPSON PARK!
That's were we were, Melissa would have won, but she renigged on her guess. It's beautiful up there, really and it's like 10 minutes away, we're going again since the rain has finally let up!

How does He know?
How does He know that on that day at that exact moment we will need to be uplifted? How does He know?
I'm overwhelmed today by the upsets in life and by the ways in which He helps/offers us ways to overcome them. Today my house is in shambles, the rain just keeps coming. I tried to remind myself last night that I could live in a cardboard box and that this house leaks much less than that would, but it didn't help. I tried to think positively that today it would not rain at all, or much less at least than yesterday, but it didn't. To cope I thought we'd leave this drippy house for a bit, go to the library, I could definitely read my way through this situation, and then out to lunch with a friend. But the car wouldn't start. Really? I thought sitting there in the garage, REALLY? My neighbor tried to help but it looks like it's going to take a professional and all I could see were dollar bills floating out of the house and down the street with the rain water. What a day, what a week. I wanted to cry, I did, I let two seriously angry tears flow down my cheeks then I decided to be done being upset. I got Damen out of the car and since the clouds had let up for a second, we ventured down to the mailbox to get the mail. Once we got inside I sat down to go through it, hoping to take my mind off, well things, and there it was, a letter absolving me from my speeding ticket(another trial for another day) and offering me my money back from the county. There was an answer to a prayer that hadn't even been uttered yet. How are we going to pay for the car to get fixed? And the roof? Well, here ya go Melanie, here it is. There was two days of mail in that mailbox, I could have picked it up yesterday, but I didn't. I picked it up today at the exact moment when I needed to. So, how does He know? I don't always understand the little miracles that are my life, but I am eternally grateful for them.

Vote for Nicholas
This is for my friend Jessica's son Nicholas and many other children out there.
Thank you.
Please VOTE for our friends and their families, you can make a difference.
The Gwendolyn Strong Foundation (http://www.gwendolynstrong.com/) received a wonderful opportunity to win a $1 Million dollar grant from Chase Bank because of incredible wide ranging support, but now they need help on getting the word out there letting people know how to vote starting January 15th. And because you can only vote for GSF one time in the final round, we need to work extra hard to get beyond our networks and reach new people to vote for GSF. With your help, together we WILL see an end to this cruel disease!

What time is it? UPDATE time!!
Ok, so I know all 3 of you have been wondering "What's that girl UP to??" Well, let me fill you in:
December was a whirlwind of fun and family and amusement parks!
The Saturday before Christmas we went to Disneyland with an old friend of mine and his family. It was a lot of fun to go again, and we will definitely be making good use of our season passes by going over and over and over again!
Then there was a quiet Christmas at home with my sister, Lori, and the three of us. I had no idea how stressful it would be having Christmas at my place with all the "santa" preparations (aka stockings, MOM how did you do that?? for 8 people!!(I say 8 because I'm pretty sure she did her own too)) and then stressing about the clean up and then dinner. We invited our old neighbor who's husband is a firefighter and had to work, she and her 11 month old cutie pie joined us for crazy delicious ham w/ham sauce and other stuff.
On the 26th we went to Sea World to use up the last of our passes and saw the most amazing Shamu show EVER, seriously, see it if you can! Who knew whales and carolers could emit such a powerful emotion.
Then we had to get our house in order for my other sister Kari and her family of 4.3 (she's expecting #3!). They showed up on Monday. We spent the week with them going to the train museum, Legoland, hiking, playing, and just enjoying ourselves.
Now, are you still reading this, because it sounds like a really boring calendar of events, well just get ready, there are pictures to come!
The morning they left Damen had a fever, cough and wasn't feeling well, it turned out to be pneumonia, poor kid. The situation was made even worse when I got sick this week too and we were both laid up most of the week. Sorry, no pictures of that.
Well, that's all, that's what we've been up to and now, the pictures:
Me and Damen on Dumbo, do you have any idea how high this thing goes??

Santa at the Disneyland parade

Damen Christmas morning, loving his present!

Ahh the chaos that is Christmas morning, and Dustin with Damen.

At Sea World

Robert, Nick and Damen at the Train museum

I love that I captured Damen jumping on the bridge.

CHEESE at Legoland

Waiting in line to drive the cars, what hams!

In the aquarium, Damen didn't want his picture taken, but hey I look good in this one.

End of the night family shot.

Damen and Dustin on top of the world, well almost.

Kari, Nathan, Robert and Nicholas

Kari and Nick.

Funny boys, GO DUCKS

What a gorgeous view, anyone know where we are??

Ok, so you've read the update, witnessed the pictures, consider yourself

Choice
Your choices are yours and I know it's true,
So are the consequences they're just for you.
Choose wisely and see that you look to the end,
When your choices will count there'll be some you can't mend.
Don't be sad but remember we all agreed,
Free agency for all, we're the product of our deed.
Choose wisely today and tomorrow make amends,
For the choices you made that didn't make a good end.
